This source book includes the following sections:
The Ister River, the modern day Danube, has its origins in the region inhabited by the Keltoi, a significant group in early European history. The river begins at Pyrēnē and flows directly through the heart of Europe. The Keltoi, once found in this area, now reside beyond the Pillars of Heracles, known today as the Strait of Gibraltar. Their new neighbours, the Kunēsioi, occupy the far western edge of Europe, and represent some of the last groups living on the continent.
As the vital waterway makes its journey across Europe, it winds through various landscapes connecting different peoples. Eventually, this mighty river reaches Istria on the the Euxine Sea, now called the Black Sea. The area is home to colonists from Miletus, a Greek city known for its rich culture and trade.
